Answers for all your burning questions!

1. How Do I Get To The Fat Girl Flea Market?
The flea market is held in the LGBT Community Center at 208 West
13th Street in Manhattan. Located between 7th + 8th Avenues in
Greenwich Village. You can reach the Center easily by subway: on the
IRT Broadway/Seventh Avenue line, take the IRT 1, 2, 3 or 9 (the red
line) to 14th Street at Seventh Avenue; or on the IND line, take the
A, C or E (the blue line) to 14th Street at Eighth Avenue.

2. Do I Have To Be Gay To Shop At The Fat Girl Flea Market?

No you don't have to be gay, you don't have to be straight either.
The Fat Girl Flea Market is about celebrating our curves and getting
our shop on. Everyone wanting to buy great inexpensive clothes in
sizes XL and up are welcome to attend!

3. How Do You Get All Those Terrific Clothes?
We collect them from our own closets and from the closets of women
like you. If you have clothing that you're not wearing, why not donate
them to the fleamarket? Our belief is one person's clutter, is another
person's treasure! Plus you can write off your donation on your taxes!

Click here if you'd like to donate.

4. Is There A Space For Trying On Clothing?

There aren't individual dressing rooms but there is a space curtained
off for trying on clothes which provides both some privacy *and* an
opportunity for shoppers to help each other find good clothes! In past
years we've heard "oh this doesn't work for me, but it'll work for you!"
coming out of the dressing room over and over! It's like shopping at
     Loehmans, only cheaper!

5. This Sounds Like So Much Fun, How Can I Help Out?
There are many ways to help at The Fat Girl Flea Market and they all
involve having fun! Day-of volunteers get in FREE to the fleamarket!
          a. You can just come and shop.
          b.
You can donate clothing and then come and shop.
          c. You can help out the day of the event, we only ask for 2-3 hours
of time to staff a table or be a personal shopper.
Email volunteer@fatgirlfleamarket.com if you'd like to volunteer.
And MOST IMPORTANTLY you can spread the word about the
fleamarket to your friends and family.

6. Are Men Allowed?

Of course men are allowed to attend and they're encouraged to give
lots of glowing compliments, hold packages, make style
suggestions as well as shop til they drop.

7. What Is NOLOSE and How Is It Related To The Fat Girl Flea Market?
NOLOSE, formerly known as “The National Organization for Lesbians
of Size,” has a mission of ending the oppression of fat people and
creating a vibrant fat queer community and culture.

The monies raised from the flea market go towards the scholarship
fund of the annual conference. Our goal is to assist anyone who wants
to attend the NOLOSE conference to do so regardless of financial
status. The organizers of the Flea Market include board members,
former board members, and enthusiastic attendees of the conference
and we created this event to help out. The Fat Girl Flea Market has
blossomed into its own very special and unique event serving the
needs of the broader community of women living in larger bodies.

8. Can You Explain The Tax Deduction Process?

Sure thing, it's easy. You donate clothing to us and we issue you a
receipt for your donation from Nolose which is a certified 501c3
     non profit.

If you make a donation this year, you will include the receipt in your
filing for your 2007 taxes (meaning by next April 15th 2008). Your
receipt will have no price associated with the clothing, it is up to you
and your accountant to determine its Fair Market Value.

Just note, according to this article in
Bankrate when you donate more
     than $500
worth of goods to charity, you must include

Form 8283, Noncash Charitable
Contributions, with your tax return.
     And i
f your claimed deduction is more than $5,000, you must get an
appraisal from a qualified appraiser and attach an appraisal
summary (Section B of Form 8283) to your tax return.
